There, French Lick, and Clifty Falls are three places I have yet to visit in Indiana that I'd like to. I haven't been to the "dunes" but don't really care to, we had those in Colorado and my kids went on an occasion I was out of town. I've not seen the Ohio River, I don't think.

18 miles West of New Albany Indiana on I-64 is the First Capitol of Indiana, Corydon.
It's in Harrison County, I'm in Floyd County.
Fun fact... Corydon is the first state capital of Indiana, but Vincennes
was the first capital, back when Indiana was a territory. I have visited both sites. ;) I was amazed at how small the first state statehouse is.
* SLMR 2.1a * What do you mean, QWK?? It took me over an hour to read!!

This msg may be a dupe .
I didn't know about Vincennes.
Of course I am not a Native Hoosier, just a transplant from Kentucky.
Yeah, I didn't know it, either, until I happened to visit Vincennes a few years back. If you are ever in that area, they have a nice military
history museum over on the west end of town.

Thanks. Mike, Years ago I drove through Vincennes on my way to somewhere.
Is that museum old time military or more recent as Fort Knox has?
I couldn't get the Submit button to enter the reply the first time I wrotet.
That is why I thought I might be posting a Dupe.
But didn't see two post to You so I guess Garbage Collection got it. Computers.........HUMPH!!!
It had some old time stuff in it, as well as some more current artifacts.
As best as I can tell, it covers pretty much the entire recorded military history of the area, at least as far back as the American Revolution.
They have some static aircraft displays also, and the conning tower from a submarine.
Once or twice a year, they get some of the more modern mechanized equipment out and have a demonstration.
t.
Nope, I only saw one original. ;)

I went to a US naval museum somewhere in Virginia when I did the 8th grade Washington DC trip. They had a submarine periscope on display, with the business end pointing out the roof. You could drape your arms around it like the wiley submarine commander in war movies and turn around to look outside.
The resolution was amazing to me as a kid.
They also had a moving Bofors 40mm AA gun - lots of fun as kids with a friend of mine, one trying to traverse, the other trying to elevate the gun in some coordinated fashion - and failing miserably.

We may end up near Boonsville for Christmas, we may have to swing by Corydon to check it out. Pre-Covid it was an overnight field trip for our middle school; they've since stopped doing the trip. My oldest really enjoyed visiting.

Ft. Wayne .. haven't been there in years, we usually go past there to Angola where the lakes are which is always a beautiful area to visit. T
