What information are you using for programming the repeaters?
For a repeater you'll need frequency, offset, and PL tone if enabled. https://repeaterbook.com is a good online resource and mobile app.

When you transmit, watch the frequency display and make sure it's changing either up or down based on the offset.

If it doesn't then you are transmitting simplex.

I live kind of in the middle of two repeaters (both quite some way away) which were using the same frequency. In the end I only figured out which one I was receiving (and its settings) by listening for the morse station ID to come in, then looking it up on the Internet.

I assume in most (if not all) countries repeaters are required to periodically identify themselves but I've only ever operated in the UK :)

My last 2M xcvr had option for one PL Tone but back then it wasn't necessary (long time ago).
That radio began changing frequency to 144.000 and couldn't be repaired
